Domtar

Domtar products are all around us. Just think about the wooden frame of your house and the “sticky” notes on the fridge, the magazines you read and the photocopied recipes you trade, the growing pile of “must-read” books by the bed and the wrapper on that take-out burger, the doctor's surgical gown, and the cardboard box your birthday present came in.

As the company grew management soon realized that its historic name of  Dominion Tar & Chemical Company, Limited no longer reflected the reality of its business operations. In 1965, the therefore became known as Domtar Inc. In addition, Domtar was reorganized into different division - Chemicals, Consumer Products, Construction Materials, Kraft and Fine Papers, Newsprint and Containerboard, and Packaging divisions. In 1967 they began to focus on paper.

On August 7, 2001 Domtar purchased four paper mills from Georgia-Pacific Corporation for a total of $1.65 billion. With these mills in Ashdown ( Arkansas ), Nekoosa and Port Edwards ( Wisconsin ), and Woodland ( Maine ), Domtar became Canada 's largest paper company.
