Sadako Sasaki - now 11 years old, sometimes called Sadako chan by her parents, was 2 years old when the atomic bomb dropped on her city (Hiroshima, Japan), loves to run, believes in good luck

Masahiro Sasaki - Sadako's older brother who is 14 years old, thinks good luck symbols are silly

Mitsue Sasaki - Sadako's younger sister who is 9 years old

Eiji Sasaki - Sadako's younger brother who is 6 years old, disorganized and Sadako often has to help him get ready because he is small

Mr. Sasaki - Sadako's dad, owns a barbershop (a place where hair is cut)

Mrs. Sasaki - would like Sadako to act like a young lady, loves her children very much

Oba chan - Sadako's grandmother that died when the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima

Chizuko - Sadako's best friend, they are like two twigs on the same branch, very close to each other

Kenji - a friend that Sadako meets in the hospital
